Contact Facebook Customer Service Carefully

ReputationDefender recently ran across this amusing post on Valleywag that highlights a bit of digital mischief by an enterprising social networking blogger.

Facebook

It seems that Goob, as he is known, operates a Facebook blog entitled Facebooktalk.com and frequently gets emails meant for the Facebook customer service team. Being a responsible netizen, he answers these missives with snark and aplomb, and shares the email exchanges with his readers.

Por ejemplo:

email: [removed]
message: I can not get onto facebook. Its telling me that Javascript is not enabled, but it is. I have done the steps to check it, and I can’t get facebook to come up.

Goob: “You could always buy a new computer, that’s what I do whenever I get a weird error like that.”

Clever, funny and mostly harmless.

It should be noted that Facebook has a very professional and responsive customer service team and that people should not hesitate to contact them, especially in serious cases of Cyber Bullying and Cyber Stalking.

This case also serves to point out that people should not only monitor their Online Reputation but also make sure their questions are directed to the official facebook help center.

Hi, I have been having some issues with my facebook account. When I want to look at pics that have been posted or sent to me They are cut off on the end not allowing me to see the whole picture or even click the next button. The adds show up beside it but the rest is missing. Could you please tell me what I can do to fix this issue. Thank you very much.

I don’t know about Goob, but I do quibble with your point about Facebook having a “very professional and responsive customer service team…”. They don’t. My account was apparently corrupt from the time I created it. It lost my password (I didn’t. I’m a 10-year IT tech myself, not a newbie.). I wrangled with it and finally got a reset link. I got it reset and used my account for the first week. One week, to the day, after I signed up, I tried to post a change in status and it told me I had to log in first. I thought I was logged in, but still, I logged out so I could log back in. I’ve never been able to log in since. I DEFINITELY knew my password that time. And I’ve never gotten the rest link though I’ve tried more than 20 times in the last 3 weeks. I have signed up a second account simply to try and find support only to get canned responses from two execs and still be ignored by their tech support people. I can’t even find anyone labeled “customer service”, so no, I think their customer service is non-existent and their tech support is extremely unresponsive. I’d delete my account, but I have to log in for that. And I can’t.

Thanks for the comments!
@ Abby - I think you can solve this problem by buying a new computer :)

@ Gabrielle - In our experience Facebook has been professional and responsive in terms of customer service. Sorry to hear about your issues.

I have been waiting for a conformation email to reset my password for 4 days now!!!! How much longer is it going to take??

Then can you please tell me where I can contact this “customer service”? There is no number on their web site. The link you offered is only to their help page, which has no helped as I don’t get the reset link I need and I don’t get any responses from technical support. So if you can point me to these professional and responsible people so I can get my account deleted, I’d be grateful.

I’m impressed with the lively discussion on this post!

@ Katie - I’d give them some time and the benefit of the doubt. If you dont hear back in a week, I would contact them again and explain your situation clearly and thoroughly.

@ Gabrielle - I think these links to the help center and customer support address will help you out here.

People on Facebook/Causes section are saying that Fibromyalgia is not real. It is real and affects thousands of people across the world. If you don’t know or understand what i’ts like to have Fibromyalgia don’t talk. It is real.

Greg, you were very fortunate in that you had a good experience with Facebook’s client support because I, like Gabrielle, have been ignored for 3 weeks and counting despite using the links you have provided numerous time. Do you happen to have other means to contact them? A personal email address from their support team you still have from when you used them perhaps? Or a phone number? I’d really appreciate any help you could offer because this whole situation is incredibly frustrating to me. Thanks!

I found this phone number 650-543-4800

at this link http://www.contacthelp.com/directory/Internet/Web+Sites/Facebook?ListingID=324

but have not called it personally.

It looks like quite a few people are having problems with this service. I’ll look into this in the coming days and report back with more info.

Again, thanks for the user comments and readers at the RD blog.

facebook and customer service don’t make me laugh! I must have sent over 30 emails to reset a forgotten password and for three months nothing, absolutely nothing. Two days I got a response and someone sent me an email asking me to reply to confirm my address, I replied then you guessed it nothing. Another half a dozen emails and still nothing. I am disgusted with the level of service and right now I just want my account unlocking so I can cancel it.

And the long wait to make contact with facebook support continues.
About 4 months and 40ish emails so far! I have had 1 email from them so I know they existsit, they just ignore you!
It’s not as if it’s something really technical, I just want to reset a forgotten password.
Helpful, friendly, customer service it may be for the one customer that gets through per year but for the rest of us, pretty shabby. 1/10 and I’m trying to be positive.

I’m having the same problem as Jim P. I had not used my account for a while and when I went to login it would not accept my password. I tried to reset it twice using my other e-mail address that is linked to my account and I get the e-mails asking me to confirm that I want to reset the password, which I e-mail back saying that I want to reset the password, but then nothing ever happens and it’s been months since I was locked out! Many times I’ve sent e-mails I get no response at all. I’m very disapointed with the customer service of facebook. I just want to get a new password so I can get back in contact with my friends. Have you found any other more reliable way to get in contact with customer service and resolve problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
